Antenatal Pilates combines gentle stretching with safe strengthening exercises and breathing techniques. Pilates helps increase your body awareness and highlights pregnancy posture adaptations . The tailored movements, alongside breathing techniques will help relieve stress and tension. Strengthening exercises can help you adapt to the increasing load as your baby grows, and help to address common pregnancy symptoms like lower back pain. There will be exercises that help strengthen pelvic floor muscles, which will help you prepare for birth and postnatal recovery. You don’t have to be experienced in pilates to join in. The exercises suit any fitness level. Best of all, you’ll meet other mums-to-be at classes. Class sizes are kept small and are led by Former Midwife Amy who will be on hand to guide throughout. Recommended for over 12 weeks into pregnancy before starting. Please note, all participants are required to complete a health questionnaire prior to attending. Unfortunately you may not be unable to attend this class, if you have certain health conditions or pregnancy related issues and a discussion with your midwife and or consultant would be required . These conditions are identified on the questionnaire and include: -Persistent second or third trimester bleeding -Pregnancy induced hypertension or pre-eclampsia -Incompetent cervix -Evidence of intrauterine growth restriction -Uncontrolled type I diabetes, hypertension or thyroid disease, other serious cardiovascular, respiratory or systemic disorders
