About
Qigong literally means "life energy cultivation". It is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for the purposes of holistic wellbeing for mind, body and spirit. In this intro series, we will begin with what is known in Healing Qigong as "Open the Gates", which is a set of warm-up exercises that are a traditional way to prepare your body and mind for your Qigong practice. They wake up your body by gently increasing your circulation, activating the lymphatic system, priming your neural pathways, lubricating your joints and connective tissues and loosening up tight muscles, and they put you in a good frame of mind. Every week thereafter in this series, we will begin with "warm ups" and then move into a different practice/set of movements. We may also enter into some conversation as to Qigong's connections to Traditional Chinese Meditation. This series of classes is a wonderful opportunity to begin your exploration of this life enhancing practice. Qigong is a gentle, slow-movement practice intended for us to enter a more natural "flow state" of movement. It is important that you honor your own physical movement limitations during practice, as well as to take impeccable care of your whole self. This practice offers us the intention to slow down in order to notice and feel into our bodies and energies to find a connection to more optimal health and living.
