*SPECIALIST WORKSHOP* An Intro to Kundalini Yoga

About

If you’re wondering what is Kundalini Yoga, or if you want to deepen your understanding of this unique and incredibly impactful practice? Read on! We are thrilled to welcome local Kundalini Teacher Nikki Sterndale to Sass to share her passion and knowledge of this ancient practice - and we're excited to open our minds and hearts to a new style of Yoga that's not currently on our timetable! What is Kundalini Yoga? Kundalini Yoga (KY) is known as the Mother of all Yogas and provides an ancient system of technologies that can help us to generate the inner energy we require to navigate and survive in this current fast paced climate we live in. We are dealing with a huge influx of information and rapid changes in technology, that leave us feeling out of control, alienated from each other and burnt out; we are separated from our souls and our soul purpose which leaves us feeling that there is something missing in our lives. KY blends pranayama (breathwork), movement, mediation, mudra (hand positions) and mantra (words). It is known as the yoga of transformation with the aim to unite the mind, body and soul. It is used to enhance the self-awareness of all those that practice. Kundalini means coiled snake in Sanskrit. Kundalini energy or Shakti, usually lies dormant at the base of the spine, but can be awakened by intense meditation or breath work, including the practise of Kundalini Yoga. Most people are not even aware this energy exists and it is not yet recognised by medical science. Awakening your Kundalini leads to awakening of your awareness and becoming more conscious of your place in the world and how you interact within it, thus leading to living a more conscious life. Much of Kundalini Yoga is used to balance the chakras, creating a clear path for energy to rise. By opening and balancing our chakras, we enhance all aspects of our lives and strengthen our internal “survival tools” to manage today’s challenges. What can I expect during this workshop? Focussing on repetition of movements, mantra or pranayama for prolonged periods of time, this style of Yoga allows the body and mind to be taken to a different state of consciousness and awareness. The repetition encourages the energy in our body to flow, thus removing or reducing blockages in our chakra energy system. Working with breath and mantra helps direct the energy from the subtle body to stimulate the nervous and glandular systems, leaving you with a profound sense of joy, clarity calm and relaxation. This practice is such a good antidote to modern living and stress. Many of the Kundalini Yoga positions and practices look easy on the surface. However, it is the repetition that challenges us and consequently changes our brain patterns, brain waves, and chemical makeup of our blood and bodies. The purpose of yoga is to build strength and awareness in both the mind and the body. In this 90 minute introductory session we will work with the Anahata (Heart) Chakra. The Heart Centre (4th Chakra) is the gate between the lower and higher chakras. Potential spiritual forces rising from the lower centers must pass this gate of compassion before a person can experience a durable and selfless happiness. By working on and opening up this Chakra we can release blockages in our energy field and allow freer movement between the upper and lower chakras. Curious? Want to know more or just give it a go? Come and join us!
